How Long Do Your Flare Ups Last
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi Everyone
I get flare ups a lot and sometimes I can figure out why and other times, like now, I can't. I have constant 24/7 pain and have for at least the past 12 years. Never subsiding to less than a level of 3 on a scale of 10. When I am in a flare, it shoots up to a 6 to 8 and very infrequently it will get to a 9. I haven't been at a 10 in years, thank goodness. Anyhow, my flare ups seem to last from 3 days to 18 months at a time. The recent one I had was for 3 months and it was due… read more

Many of our flares are due to #1 stress... #2. Using energy we don't have but feel we have to. #3. STRESS. Flares can last for a couple of days and up to an entire year! Weather is another stressor that can cause a flare. But I believe for most, it's lack of sleep and stress. Hope this helps. I WILL do some research and see what I can find out for you!

Flare ups have no special time schedule. They can last as little as a few days or as long as a few weeks. I keep stressing that everyone reacts to their body’s workings differently. There are as many different variations of fibro symptoms as there are stars in the sky. Hope you feel better soon. Deede

Trigger point shots cause a 4 day flare-up. A morning, a day, a week 6 months and that does't mean I feel good the rest of the time. I feel a lesser brand of misery. My one big horror is stress. People tension stresses me out big time which brings on bad flare-ups which ended up with me withdrawing from people who hassled me. Especially back in the 80's when nobody knew anything about fibro until Jane Brody described it in her NY Times column on health. Even after that people couldn't believe I was sick so I eventually gave up on them. I got tired of hints like, "my friends son says he has fibro but we think he's just lazy. This from my own family. I ended up with PTSD after 9/11 and now I simple don't deal with anybody or anything that's going to stress me out. I was in therapy for a long time which helped me recognize the things that made my life worse, I learned no to sweat the small stuff and learned self hypnosis for managing pain. I recommend therapy. It's was a huge help. I still have PTSD and tension leads to stress which I can't manage at all so I avoid it as much as possible. Managing a 1 year old is a heroic effort worthy of enormous respectful praise.
