I was told by a chiropractor today that statin medications like Lipitor (which I take!) is most likely contributing to my joint pain. Has anyone else heard this?
I do. I take the generic form of Welchol. For the longest time my doctor had me on statins until I saw the damage it can cause. We went back and forth on this. One day I told her I am not taking any more statins and if you prescribe some I just won't fill it or pick it up. She finally was on board with it. As for the side effects this is something I would have to go off to see if there is a difference or not.
I worked as a medical assistant at an orthopedic doctor’s office for years and it really does contribute to joint pain. Once our patients stopped them and controlled their cholesterol by diet, they saw a significant improvement in their joint pain.
My doctor prescribed statins but after a week I could not even walk. The pain in all my joints was so bad my doctor took me off them right away. Some people cannot take statins at all. I’m one of them. I’m still trying to control my cholesterol with diet but always a struggle...and combined with my other health issues it’s a crap shoot to know which one to attend too. 😂
l heard it causes muscle pain
My husband had that same thing happen and had to go off them. My cardiologist told me to take Red Yeast Rice supplements (2 tablets - twice daily). He said it works the same as statins but without any side effects. In one month my cholesterol dropped about 60 points and has remained at about 150.
