I am just beginning to try a vegan diet. Even though I never ate high fat, my cholesterol is higher than it should be and so is my blood pressure. I also am prediabetic. Since my body doesn't like sudden changes, I'm working into the new way of eating very slowly. Protein powders (I like Hemp mixed with chocolate almond milk), Mixed nuts, especially pumpkin seeds for iron. High protein breads...google should fill in the rest.
My diet is the same, just added meat back, and pizza!
Gained 10 pounds back in a week, which seems to keep me at my bodies happy weight of 205-210 lbs.
Our bodies process protein at a higher rate than healthy people do. So make sure to get enough protein in the day, 80-100 grams. That was my downfall, only lasted 5 months on a vegan diet when I was first diagnosed. Lost over 20 pounds, but just didn’t have any energy. Good Luck...
Thank you again! Your answers have helped a lot! I hope you have a restful night and a good weekend!
Thank you for sharing this with me. Protein and iron have been my concerns. I know beans and grains combine to make a complete protein, but I don't know of any other vegan sources of protein except the soy based ones and I would like to avoid those. Do you know of any high protein vegan foods? What is your diet like now? After going off of the vegan diet did you gain your weight back?
