Your doctor is wise ! If I had gone the drug route , that’s what I would have chosen . It usually has no side effects . I found it in my research and asked my rheum about it and he agreed . One of his patients on it had exaggerated dreams and that was it . I decided not to take drugs and used the Quell device developed by Harvard and MIT instead as it is easier on the body . I also attended mayo’s pain clinic for three weeks to learn how to treat chronic pain in alternative ways . They took us off our rx and substituted alternatives of exercise , distraction therapy , and 3 one hour lectures a day on everything about living with chronic pain including a lengthy one on all the drugs which coveted two walls of boards . All these questions people here raise were answered . They had family days on Fridays to answer their questions and discuss how to interact . I saw near miracles happen . People arrived in wheel chairs and were walking with walkers or canes after . They started our exercise low and worked up at our own pace . We kept our own log in the gym and were overseen closely by two therapists at all times . We were assigned our own nurse . It was a well -oiled machine as all of mayos is . There were 10 of us in a conference room
setting . we still text to keep in contact, and I’m thrilled to say we are doing exceptionally well following through with what they taught us to do after we got home . . Insurance pays for it . Truly inspirational . I hope many can attend . It’s for emotional pain also .
So congrats to your doctor . You might want to try the guaranteed Quell first so you don’t have to get involved with rx
I took Low dose naltrexone 4.5mg 15 yrs ago and it worked well for me until I had alot of other health issues come up. When I started on it there were no real official studies done on it, just internet info, but because there are literally no side effects my doc was up to try it. They now have done the studies. There was one done at Stanford on it's effectiveness with fibro. Lots of info online re LDN interesting. Help to boost your immune system. Dr Barnari? in NY did his own study which made it become known online when I found it.
He gave it to pts with MS and as long as they took it over 90% stayed in remission. (but they can't be on the other icky meds they put them on now while taking it because they work against each other. I say it's worth a try and the 30$ to have it made at a compounding pharmacy. Hope it helps
Maybe try it again . It could have been something else .
So I have tried mostly every medication over the years as well as going medication free and doing the herbal/or marijuana way. However, sadly, some people do need to be on medications as nothing else seems to help them function. I wish I didn't need mine, but I know without it I am incapable of working and taking care of my children. I too, tried Naltrexone. I unfortunately had a weird reaction to it. I was hoping it would be my miracle drug because I heard so many great things about it and my doctor has other patients who have Fibro and have had great results from it. It is worth a try. My reaction caused severe nausea, headaches, and worse pain and it only took two days for all of that to start. I was so upset. Those are not common side effects as far as I can remember. I do hope you give it a go and I hope it helps you a ton!
