I have been on ampiltripiline since October and gained a good 10lbs my doctor said it’s one of the main side effects of fibromyalgia meds as I asked to change because of it . I came off it for 3 days to try 5 htp which was supposed to work similar to my usual meds but couldn’t cope with the lack of sleep as that brought on the pain again .

The exact same thing happened to me. I came off Amitriptyline but couldn’t cope with lack of sleep & the pain so am back on it again. At least by having sleep it helps me cope better with the pain.

Amitrityline is used to kick start appetites so will make you gain weight My weight gain settled down after a few months. However, since then I have been on Prednisolone for sarcoidosis and piled on much more weight. Still trying to shift the 10kgs gained.😔

i think the meds could be the cause. i'm currently taking remeron and have gained 12 lbs in two months. but other factors in fibro can make us gain too. we're not as active, we don't sleep well, our brains don't work right. being tired and our brains shutting down can make us crave carbs since our brains mostly rely on carbs for fuel. it also helps us to have energy. but i don't think the meds you're taking are good for your weight either. if you need it i would take it though. the weight gain may happen anyhow in the long run.
