Elavil
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

My Fibro doctor prescribe Elavil to help me sleep, It caused me nightmares so bad that I still remember a couple of them to this day. Prior to taking Elavil, I was NOT having nightmares.

A large number of people I talked to with Fibromyalgia said Elavil gave them nightmares also. Nightmares mean that you're definitely not getting a good night's sleep.

Q: Why do so many Doctors continue to prescribe Elavil for people with Fibro, when we have such a harmful reaction to this medication?

Elavil was the first medication my Fibro doctor prescribed to SUPPOSEDLY help me sleep (many, many years ago). It was actually much more harmful to me, than having any benefits.

No prescription medications helped me sleep after I got Fibro, until my friend told me about trazadone and how it helped her sleep. Yes, trazadone has been tremendously helpful for me as well.

My question and what I was wondering: WHY doctors keep prescribing it for people with Fibro.

It a mood depressant it supposed to make you feel groggy. I remember take Elival and I would have nothing but bad hangovers I wasn't able to concentrate even. I am now on trazadone that help you sleep. For me I don't have any side effects from it. They have other medications they can put you on to help with sleep and pain. Ambien is a sleeping agent. Adivan anything that helps with anxiety can help the body rest. Good luck! I hope you feel better soon..
God bless you! P.L.L.L
