GI Testing
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

So one of the reasons my doctor was leaning toward my fibro diagnosis is the fact I have so many GI issues (those with fibro are more likely to have them?) She wanted me to set up for and upper scope and a colonoscopy...I have both scheduled for Monday. I will start my "cleanse" tomorrow, but my anxiety has me so on edge I am tempted to cancel the whole thing.

Someone, please tell me it's not as horrible as my mind is making it out to be. I am honestly terrified!

I have had several scopes due to polyps and diverticulitis. I had to have my colon resected from diverticulitis in 2013. The worst part of it is doing the prep. Make sure to have jello and popscicles that are not red purple or blue. Also get some a and d ointment to use when you start going. It will keep you from getting your bottom irritated. It is a lifesaver. Just remember its only 1 day that you have to get thru. The scope itself is not.bad at all. You will wake up and go home and not remember anything about it. Make sure to eat light after the scope. Good luck and hang.in there. It will be.all over.before you know it. Hugs.

havent had a colonoscopy, but i had an endoscopy 4.5 years ago when my fibro first developed (i also have lots of GI issues) and it wasnt bad at all. just went to sleep and when i woke up it didnt feel like anything had even happened. this was also right after i had been deathly ill, constantly throwing up and diarhhea for a week, and almost dying from it, so i would think it might would have been worse then than just having it done regularly, and it still was no big deal at all!

you’ll be fine! just think, itll be much better if have the tests and know the results, than to cancel them.

It not that bad. You won't feel a thing. Your mind can be free of worry after it's all done. Go and get her done! It's worth knowing if there's anything wrong. Good luck! God bless!

I have had both and it is nerve wracking before because you do not know what to expect however the prep is the worse part. I agree to have popsicles on hand that are not red, blue or purple (due to the food dyes that will mess up your tests if you use those colors). Also agree about the jello such as you can have yellow such as lemon and green such as lime. I would prepare them the day before you start prep so they are set up and cold in the frig before you start. The popsicles are great. I also agree that A&D ointment you should have because your bottom does get sore since you are going through cleansing your system. When I woke up I did not remember anything from the tests and was just weak from the cleanse. I did have mashed potatoes with cream of chicken soup over it when I came home which was a soft food to start out. I had more popsicles for dessert as well as the little bit of jello I had left over. I love the Lipton box noodle soup which instead of adding the total amount of water I substitue some of the water with chicken broth you can buy in the can or in the carton. This helped me get my strength back. I also drank Pedialtye which helped to get my strength back as well. I like the grape flavor and put it over ice. I made sure I could get plenty of rest that day after the tests and the next day or two as with having fibro etc. my body takes time to bounce back some. It stated I could have apple juice, I did that one time during the prep however I ended up with a sore bottom as it is acidic so I would avoid anything that is acidic. Sending hugs and prayers as since you have never had this done before it is the unknown of having it done before that is unnerving. The biggest thing is do your prep right so you do not have them say your prep is not good enough to do the tests. God bless and know that you will wake up and not remember any part of the tests, but will be weak due to the prep cleansing.

It's not so bad. I just had it done last year.
