Wondering What This Means

Had a blood test again and these numbers came back high. I think it has something to do with liver damage, which was a concern a few months ago, so I went off all medications at that time.

AST(SGOT) 58 (Previously 24 in August) U/L Normal range: 13 - 39 U/L
ALT(SGPT) 93 (Previously 36 in August) U/L Normal range: 7-25 U/L

From what I understand, if the number is elevated then that is a sign of liver damage. I'm not sure though. I'll call my doctor today. Just wondering if anyone elseโ€ฆ read more

The numbers do indicate something is going on in your liver. Could be result of medication including OTC pain meds, autoimmune, toxicity, liver disease, fatty liver or even celiac. Have they done a CT or ultrasound on your liver? Just to check it out? I hope you can get answers from the doctor. I know what you mean about dr. Spend thousands to never get any real help. Blessings!

It's something your doctor should monitor. I wouldn't panic yet. You could be developing fatty liver disease. My bil had transplant 2 years ago. My husband had it to. They place him on vitiman E to heal his liver. Or could be your medications or could even a sign that your connection to your liver could have a stone. Million reasons for elevated liver functions. Just keep your doctor monitoring. Gentle Hug. PS my Bil and husband went into the hundreds.

My doctor does blood work every year and so far my levels are all normal range. I worry because of the medication I am on. But definitely talk to your doctor to answer your questions about these levels. You have to be your own advocate. Let us know what the doctor says. ๐Ÿ™‹

I had elevated liver functions while I was taking a seizure meds for my pain. I quit taking and repeated my blood in two months and my values were back to normal.
