Hi. I have had fibro for almost 20 years. The rheumatologist I was seeing passed away 2 years ago and my regular GP has been filling the scripts. They are not helping anymore. I've tried to find a new rheumatologist, and went to 2, but they will not treat me because I don't have an autoimmune disorder. I am willing to drive a distance for a good doctor that will treat me. Any suggestions in Waterbury, Meriden, Middletown, Farmington areas?? I appreciate any suggestions
I understand your dilemma. My rheumatologist left the practice. I tried to find another rheumatologist, but I was told the same thing as you. I don't have an autoimmune disorder so no new rheumatologist would see me. My current primary doctor is retiring in January....not that he was any help because he never really wanted to get involved in treating me. That was okay until my rheumatologist left. Fortunately, I think, the nurse practitioner at my old rheumatology office did see me. It was to rule out Sogren's disease or other autoimmune disorders. Well, after $4,000.00 worth of lab work, I was ruled out for any autoimmune disease. I know this sounds crazy, but in a way I wish I had an autoimmune disease. Something that doctors recognize as a diagnoses with known treatment. I'm still getting a sense of doubt from doctors when I tell them I have had a diagnosis of fibromyalgia. I think so many doctors suspect people with fibromyalgia are drug seekers! Depending on the situation, sometimes I don't even tell the healthcare provider I have fibromyalgia...
You may fair better with a neurologist or pain management specialist if the rheumys all have the same policies
Thank you for the responses. I have looked into neurologists, but will look further. If I was younger, I think I would go to school to be a specialist in Fibro.
I’m sorry. I don’t know anyone in that area.
