Muscle Twitching Remedies
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

So this is week 3 with constant muscle twitching. It would happen all over a few times a day, then settle in on my right leg/knee for over a week, and now it’s on my left foot this week. I can see it twitching under the arch of foot and I had extreme itchiness on my foot as well. Im on week 2 of magnesium but it’s not helping. Anyone experience this or have anything that can help? I see a neurologist on Monday so I’m hoping for answers. Thank you guys!

I've had that same experience several times. Muscle relaxers didn't stop it; just slowed it down temporarily but what DID stop it was a TENS unit. I bought mine on Amazon. Owning your own is much cheaper than going to physical therapy for an hour at a time to have it done and charged to your insurance . When my Fibro pain gets really bad... or my sciatica pain does, I can get it to stop by using my TENS unit. Albeit takes hours sometimes to finally get total relief; it is a "hurts so good" type of therapy; it will be a bit uncomfortable but it will feel good too. Hard to explain. But depending on your pain level will determine how long you will need to use it, but it absolutely does work for me. If you do decide to buy one, do read all the instructions on how to properly use it. There are specific places where you place the electrodes on your body. Good luck!

Is it painful as well? I have twitching/spasms/ involuntary movements but it’s often painful as well because it’s over active nerves. I was diagnosed with Neuropathy and put on Gabapentin. Twitching/spasms could be caused by potassium deficits as well. Bananas have a lot of potassium in them or you can take potassium supplements. I take both magnesium and potassium.

Okay - yes, I get the vibrations, buzzing, humming too but occasionally I'll get the earthquake like shakes...it is bizarre. I really believe that our CNS are super out of wack and the twitching/buzzing etc is the bodies way of reacting to the issue or also trying to self regulate/reboot or something weird like that.

Gentle hugs to you. I had a twitch that lasted for 2 weeks so I know how frustrating it can be. It wasn't twitching when I flexed but always when the muscle was relaxed. Then it started cramping and made my entire arm hurt. I went to the ER, they gave me a giant steroid shot, sent me home with tramadol and muscle relaxers. The next day I woke up and it was gone.

@A MyFibroTeam Member I get vibrations but I can’t see it. But it feels more like a buzzing sensation. The only things I can see right now are the twitches. And by the way they are still there, 3 weeks later.

Do any of you guys get the muscle shaking? Where all of a sudden a part of your body will start shaking and you can literally feel it. Almost like a very obvious vibration. This is not a tremor. This is literally where my leg muscle (usually my thigh muscle) will briefly shake and you can visibly see it. Not a ripple but literally just like the muscle shaking on its own...almost like a person who just got done with a hard workout and their leg shakes. This hasn't happened to me in awhile (a few months) and just happened again. Awesome!
