For some reason, my otherwise extremely professional Dentist seems to find some kind of comfort in telling me that the meds I take are responsible for my tooth loss (all uppers gone, 4 missing on bottom not counting wisdom teeth).
He will not hear me when I explain that my mother has no enamel on her teeth, and lost them all by time she was 25. I have weak enamel and was only able to keep mine (until full dentures at age 50) by losing them one at a time over the space of 40 years. I have noā¦ read more
Hi Susan. I've had Fibromyalgia since I was 6yrs old. I'm 56 now. Pain, tiredness and brain fog has always been part of my life. A year ago my teeth started to loosen. One day while rinsing my mouth, one incisor fell out into the basin. No root and no bleeding. Two weeks ago I pulled another two incisors and a molar out with my fingers. Again, no bleeding. I read on this forum somewhere that it is possible that Fibromyalgia can restrict blood circulation in the gums thereby causing our teeth to slowly die and hence eventually loosen and fall out. At present I am trying to find a dentist I can afford so I can try get some dentures to replace my four lower front teeth. My speech is so different and my husband calls me Toothless after the dragon from the movie How to train your dragonš . I personally don't think any medication causes our teeth problem because if others are like me, our medication gets changed more often due to symptoms and side effects changing so quickly.
I think Iād tell that dentist that if I went off my pain meds, heād have one less patient cause I wouldnāt be able to live without any bit of relief we get!! I donāt understand how people either donāt understand this illness or think we are faking. I mean honestly, it would be difficult to realize all the problems and symptoms that come with fibro but do people really think we would choose this life?? So frustrating!!
I have had the SAME!! I think my dental problem (including tooth loss) may be genetic but dentists reject that. Also said it was b/c of my meds. I do think other factors of fibro could cause dental problems- but no one seems to know. Hang in there with the dentist- they're doing the best they can! š

I am so sorry this dentist has so little understanding. I might just explain that my other doctors do not feel my meds can be changed. And ask him if we can no longer discuss this. And if he brought it up again for I would just remind him of this conversation. It is your health and you need to take care of yourself. Again I am so sorry he is giving you a hard time and not listening. Often happens. Remember he has the problem and not you. ā¤ļø
