My daughter has fibro. She is learning to drive as we know this could be a lone progress. So was wondering to help her to be independent a E bike. She not be in a bike for over 7yrs she now 17. When she was diagnosed she stopped walking and going out with friends as she got very tried. I can't do all the runs I used to as my work hrs have changed so she either habe to stay at school longer and wait for me or she rides home on an e bike.
Advice please or views
for your daughter is hard to Pedal a bike for me and I'm 57 years old and I got diagnosed in my early 30s it will not have a flare up it's even hard for me to jump my car because pressure on the foot pedal it's painful I just think your daughter being in pain it's hard and if it somewhere they don't deal with it they don't understand the severity of the pain just let her know you're there for her that's what we all need sometimes to know there's someone there to help us no it's not going to kill but the pain is so so horrible
I go to gym and cycle on one of the stationary bikes with a back support. It helps my fibromyalgia in my legs as well as my knee replacement.
Some people with chronic pain do use electric bikes. However, with fibromyalgia I think it's important to understand that each individual is different, some have stronger symptoms, some are at different stages of the condition. So where one person with fibromyalgia can do an activity or exercise, another might not be able to do the same thing.
Electric bikes are supposed to be great on hills. But they still, of course, have to be pedalled, if she has suffered from pain in her legs frequently, they might make this pain worse. However, a smaller amount of pressure is required to get the wheels moving.
This is a lady called Clare whose had an arthritis diagnosis.
Of course, she does not have fibromyalgia, but it might help.

I would say if you can rent an e-bike for her, so she can try that might be a better idea. But I know that you cannot rent them in all areas. I would also calculate the distance she would have to travel from the school to home. I would ask her how much leg pain she gets. She may not be able to do it every day but so many times a week.
Again, keep in mind every person with fibromyalgia is unique, exercise can benefit, and some can cycle, but others cannot.
Remember the e-bikes can be expensive and she will have to be careful about which e-bike she gets, they are all different. Some retailers do a 'try before you buy' so I'd ask around explaining the situation.
I wish you well, I'm sure others will come on here with their experiences.
