Question - Muscles Shaking/trembling/quivering
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello. I have asked this question before but didn’t get a ton of feedback so I’m going to ask again. Does anyone on here have muscle shaking? The best way I can describe this is when someone goes to the gym and works out their legs super hard and you can literally see their legs trembling or quivering. This is not a fasiculation. I get those and know what those are. This is literally a rhythmic movement that can literally make my entire thigh move and it comes on quickly. It looks identical to… read more

My neurologist said it’s muscle twitching. Apparently common in fibrmoites. But still so scary!

I know it's difficult to describe what happens to our bodies. I know I've tried at several different doctors/specialists and most of them look at me like I'm crazy. I was one of the folks that responded to your initial post of muscles twitching and I mentioned mine twitch all over my body - called fasciculations. There are times that my abdominal muscle starts to twitch - most of the time it's quick and not visible or only slightly (even though the twitching might last for months in particular areas). But there are times when it starts "rolling" - meaning it feels like a larger part of the muscle is involved and the fasiculations are stronger and deeper. When that happens I feel a general tightening of the muscles and then it fires. It is visible and pretty impressive. It has caused me to cough at times. You can't ignore it.

If you have been checked out by a neurologist and there was no indication of a motor neuron disease (ALS, MS, etc.) then they are probably thinking it falls under the "Benign Fasciculation Syndrome. Make sure you are completely evaluated by a neurologist, tho.

I get similar and like you get the twitching and the muscle 'rumbles'. I've had neuro work ups and they say it's benign but still very bothersome. That has been my most concerning symptom (now two years into this stuff). I avoid gluten, caffeine and take supplements - twitching can be caused by vitamin/mineral deficiencies.
