How Do You Cope?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’m struggling to get the energy to attend appointments including psych visits I’ve been waiting months for. Aside from going through an extremely rough patch Ive gotten to the point I’m not leaving the house. Im just not coping with the pain with doing basically nothing but breathing (what I’d give to have a shower and not regret the movement). I’m honestly afraid to venture out and risk exacerbating the pain and fatigue as I’m barely keeping it together now. Divulging my thoughts to my parents… read more

I was like that then I said what the heck I'll try some things and tried talking to a very nice doctor just to vent which I actually liked. She was actually skilled at emotionally supporting me in a healthy way wow different! Lol. My parents are to old and self focused to understand fibro so I don't bother trying to use them for any emotional support on any issue. It's never been their skillset anyway which is part of why I have fibro on the first place.😄 Then I tried physical therapy 1x a week which was from a very nice sensitive person too. I got a free stretchy band. I'm finding better people to get stronger with in the med industry than my family. I had gotten SO WEAK and gained weight from being afraid to move laying in bed and had to try to flip it or die doing that so time to save myself. Then another doc refered me to a warm pool therapy one on one and that's AWESOME!!! I can excercize slowly feeling warm with no weight on my body! I love it! The woman works with other fibro patients and askes me how I felt after workouts so she can reduce it if needed but its just walking and stretching and arm movements all easy in water but I feel more sleepy that night and the soreness I can handle and I'm finally proud I'm doing somet hing to regain stregnth and change my body that I lost 7 pounds and am surprised! I reccomend you try all you can and see what you like. Thing is, we have to save ourselves from hiding on fear and rebirth to our new lives doing our best. I know what it's like to even hate to go the bathroom or eat. But that was not a happy place for me. I hope you find new ways to be happy too. 🌼🌸🌷🌸🌼

When I feel trapped and alone from the pain and anxiety, I (and this is cheesey) count my blessings. I start small: grateful for ten toes, the sound of birds outside my window, the comfort of bed, etc.
I struggle with showers, so i use a wet wash cloth to clean the gnarliest parts between showers. I throw it in to a bathroom trip, since I'm already in the bathroom.
When I feel I don't have the energy to go to an appointment, I give myself permission to show up as is and will literally roll out of bed in my stinky, wrinkled, worn for several days pajamas and let my husband help me to the car and go.
The best advice I've received is to tap into my stubborn side and out stubborn the fibro. Sometimes, I just have to grit my teeth and tell myself "I am the boss!" And push through pain and tears and fatigue and just do it. No matter how much it hurts afterwards, you need to take care of you.

Also, you should make sure your doc gives you the right meds to get your pain levels low enough to handle at least one outing a day and a swing by the grocery store. You shouldn't be in such pain if you didn't exert yourself.overtly. There's also CBD oil many swear by. Did you check for local support groups? Are short church groups a possibility?

Gentle slow exercises to start can make you loosen up and feel a little better. First use Lavender Epsom Salt while you are in the shower from head to toe and it will soften your skin and help with your muscle pains. It is one dollar at DollarTree stores. Try it and you will see it helps. I even get more energy after I smear it on and wash it off. :)
