How Do I Get A Firm Diagnosis
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi. I am a newbie
Two Physios and the nurse practitioner have told me I "probably" have Fibro
I have had constant nerve pain for two years. I have Sciatica type pain in both legs and arms. My back, neck and my feet.
I have tingling, burning and a kind of crawling feeling under the skin.
I also feel as though I am vibrating.
I have had Anxiety on and off and am generally quite stressed at home.
I have T2 Diabetes which is tightly controlled with diet and meds.
When I saw a Physio and an… read more

It takes years to get an official diagnosis and even longer to find a fibro friendly doctor. But you should get tested to rule out lupus, hashimotos, and other autoimmune diseases. Low Vitamin D can also cause these problems. Adrenal fatigue too. Ask for a complete blood workup and insist on these thyroid tests, not the usual test doctors do: TSH to discern hypopituitary (i.e. low TSH with a low free T3), Free T3 and Free T4, Reverse T3, BOTH thyroid antibodies to detect Hashimoto’s, four iron labs (Ferritin, % Saturation, serum iron and TIBC), 24 hour Saliva cortisol (not blood), B12 and folate, magnesium, potassium (CMP), Vitamin D3 (and D2), MTHFR gene, Thyroglobulin if thyroid cancer is suspected. Others include whatever your doctor recommends.

You need to get a referral to a rheumatologist
They specialize in fibro and several types of autoimmune disorders.
It can't hurt to also see a neurologist. I see one for my migraines which are also part of fibro and they can keep an eye on the cognitive side of fibro too.

Fibromate I was diagnosed more than twenty years ago and you are dead right pain gets worse as years go on ! Meds get changed and it’s trial and error until we get meds that suits you! I have never been sent to neurologist in all the years I have had this ! I did see an orthopaedic who diagnosed multi skeletal and I was then pensioned out of work! All our doctors have different ideas regarding Fibro and I think there should be guidelines that our doctors have to follow! That way sufferers would know where they stood and doctors would all be singing from same hymn sheet! Sending soft hugs to you all.xxx

Also, there are varying degrees or levels of pain with fibro so don’t feel foolish if you are almost bedridden while others with fibro can still work!! I find that is a huge problem why people look at you like you have two heads when you say how bad you are in pain yet they have “a friend” that has fibro and can still work and function almost normally! Everyone is different and it also gets progressively worse the longer you have it!! Big hugs!!
