A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I just read a study comparing effects with pain comparing neurontin & Effexor. It claims to work well for people who aren't depressed. Kind of strange but thought I Wud ask. ❤️

Jagdish.I have never tried Effexor and won’t ,,the only pills that I do take are Tylenols or Ativan and then lie down and rest ....Ativan relaxes me so it sometimes helps a little by relaxing the muscles and if you can just take a nap or rest , watch tv or close your eyes and think nice thoughts , that helps me but we are all different and what works for me doesn't always work for some one else..you have to do what is best for yourself and not what works for others.. although you can try these suggestions , who knows , some might help you too..I really wish you feel better soon...sending you a big hug 🤗 and love, ❤️

Neurontin (gabapentin) works by slowing down the nerves so they send less messages to the brain. The brain then tells you less of the time, that you are in pain.. It's not a pain medication, but a nerve suppressant. I use it. It only works for nerve pain as muscle cramps are muscle pain, bone pain is bone pain etc... It work on prevention, and it better than heavy pain killers, however some people are on very high doses. I only take 600 a day, which is 300 less than the base dose and it works for my nerve pain, unless I am in a flare.

I hate to have to experiment with diff drugs.
I know that sometimes that is the answer but frankly it causes me anxiety.
One doc prescribed tegratol yrs ago now and I ended up in the hospital because I was allergic.
I just really don't want that to happen again.
There is just too much guesswork.
Not sure about the Effexor.
I am trying other therapies before more drugs.
Thanks everyone for your feedback.

Hi. I have taken effexor for probably 8 years. I have done a couple trials without it and i am much better with it. Moods more even, tolerate the stress of the fibro better.

Effexor and I didn't get along. My body felt odd. My skin didn't respond in the same way when touched and orgasms were virtualy impossible.
