Lupus And Fibromyalgia
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

Both my pulmonologist and my pain Dr are freaking out about this hideous rash that popped up on both my legs in the last couple months, right with my last flare. Both are, of course, wanting me to fork out for a dermatologist AND a rheumatologist. I'm putting my foot down because I'm tired of having to pay for all the tests and bloodwork when my family Dr is already doing routine bloodwork monthly to every two months already. Is there a blood test for lupus? For MS? I'll see if I can attach the… read more

there is a blood test for lupus. I get it once a year because lupus is in the family. thats how i found out i have sjorgrens syndrome. its anti ss-a. there might be another letter attached to it but the dr will know which one is which. my sister had lupus and her skin was sensitive and all kinds of colors. this was back in 1970 when they didnt know how to treat it. she suffered something terrible. but there is better medical care for it now.

Both conditions should have more than a blood test. the results of blood alone may not be conclusive, A MRI with the contrast will help alot. I know this is more money than you want to expect but lets take the money out of the equation please. IT's your life here, can you really put a price tag on that? Also the stress is certainly not helping at all. Stress is known to cause skin flare ups all on its on without any type of auto immune disease. The money can always be made again, yeah it sucks going through financial issues but here's a good point. Even will smith was 2.5 million dollars in debt, had his house siezed and faced some other charges before making his break as the fresh prince of belair. We all know about Einstein and tesla with their failures and the success. This is the same influence you need to have about taking care of this and educating others when you do have your break through. Hopefully that correlation helps with the understanding you just got to forget it all, get better or a diagnosis. This also may help as well.
In lupus, the immune system may attack various organs in the body, particularly the skin, joints, kidneys, heart, lungs or nervous system. (For some people, lupus only affects the skin, a condition known as discoid lupus erythematosus.)

In multiple sclerosis, the immune system specifically attacks the myelin sheath, the fatty protective layer on nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord. The myelin sheath can be thought of as you would picture the outer cover of an electrical cord. When the myelin sheath is damaged, the transmission of impulses from the brain to the body and the body to the brain can be affected.
I think the rashes could be a multitude of things and even as simple as a stress or anxiety rash. This happens when you release cortisol etc. You can get those just be over exercising, drug or alcohol side effects or something you eat. I have had this happen but it was hives from a statin drug for my heart. Point is I think it's great you are doing something about it but over reacting is not something you should do without answers and cause more stress. I certainly will send good vibes and prayers your way though!

Yes there is a series of test that can be done to rule out or confirm lupus and MS. The best thing for you as a patient is to do your research, only you know the symptoms you are having. Take some time to sit and write notes and questions prior to your next appt. This site has some useful information https://www.healthline.com/health/multiple-scle... . As far as the rash lupus can cause a rash on other parts of your body. The butterfly rash on your face is typically a tell tell sign but not the only rash. I know going to different specialist is costly but I will say that it sounds as if you need a rheumatologist. They specialize in auto immune diseases so if you do have MS, lupus, or any other auto immune disorders the rheumatologist will be the best person to diagnose and treat. I wish you the best and remember you MUST be your own advocate. HUGS πŸ’“πŸ’—πŸ’“πŸ’—
