Has Cymbalta helped anyone? I see so many negative comments about it!
I have been on it about 6 months. It helps with my tender areas, and helps a little with pain. I hear good and bad about it. Its working for me, for now
It helps my mind chill so I can sleep solidly, and I have a better attitude and more tolerance of others, which is a big plus for me. Unfortunately it has absolutely destroyed my libido...this appears to be the only bad side effect for me.
My family care doctor has been good with monitoring my Cymbalta. I attempted to come off and I was a wreck. I started on 60 mg and had my doctor up my dose to 90. If you can explain your symptoms to your doctor in a way that are nerve pain/discomfort related you may have a better chance of your family practice dr prescribing your meds.
@A MyFibroTeam Member try calling the mental health number on the back of your insurance card you are entitled to 3 free/no copay visits with a psychiatrist. If you show your doctor that you went he may be willing to increase or you can have the psychiatrist increase while there.
I know all these specialist are not the ideal way we want to spend our money however all doctors have a specialty they spent extra years in school to learn so they can provide extra knowledge then what a general practice dr can offer. Sometimes we have to show we are willing to go the extra mile to get the care we need/deserve.
I've been on it for a few years and it seems to be helping me
It has helped me with my pain and feel better overall. I am on 60 mg daily which is the standard dose for fibro.
The reviews are certainly mixed. According to studies the success rate for most fibro medications is 30% to 40% including Cymbalta. The two downsides to cymbalta is some people have terrible side effects and there can be terrible side effects if you try to come off it.
I tried Cymbalta first and it worked so I am blessed. But looking back at it and knowing what the research says I may have asked the doctor to try other medications first and go to the Cymbalta if the other medications did not work.
