Fibro Flare Ups?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

My mom has fibromyalgia and she has occasional flare ups that can last days, weeks, and even a month, where I seem to have daily pain with some days being more sensitive and tired than others.
Have you experienced flare ups, and if so what are your symptoms? Do you have to have flare ups to truly have fibromyalgia? Are my extra sensitive days my flare up?

Thank you!

I have had fibro for 30 years. I believe there are different severities of fibro. i think when i was 1st diagnosed that i did not have flares either. I just hurt all over but not as severe as i do now. I wish i could say that your worse days are flares but when i have a bad flare i end up in bed for at least a week. Just take one day at a time and keep functioning as long as you are able. I had to get ssi at 35 years old which i really hated but i just could not keep working. My advice is to start taking anti inflamatory supplements and get ahead of the fibro. I did not start taking them until i was homebound basically bed ridden. I was finally able to function again after about a year of taking them. I am now able to get out 3 or 4 days a week for a few hours. I order mine from puritans pride. They are much cheaper but good quaility. I take co q 10, garlic oil, oil of oregano, L glutamine, alpha lipoic acid turmeric and acidopylus to keep the yeast down and good gut bacteria up. I know it is alot of supplements but well worth it to keep you healthy. I forgot potassium and magnesium because fibro depletes our bodies from them. Sorry so long but i wish i had sommeone tell me this at 21 when i was diagnosed. Good luck. Hugs

I have found for myself that avoiding sugar has helped a bit.

I had a hysterectomy at 35. That is such fun. Lol. My hormones were all out of wack. I take hydroxyzine, which is an antihystamine, at night and i am sleeping much better than i ever have. I was given it for itch but found out it helped me sleep. I still wake up several times but roll over and go back to sleep. I am glad i found them because i really dont want to take sleeping pills. You might ask your doctor about them. I used to stare at the ceiling for hours at night. I hope you get back to having a life not on the sidelines. I know exactly how you feel. Hugs

Thank you, and I am glad to hear you are doing much better! Fatigue seems to be my biggest issue. If I could get on a normal sleep schedule I think that would solve half of my issues. I do take turmeric, vitamin D, and a few other supplements. I really need to take both magnesium and calcium also as I had a total hysterectomy 11 years ago. I know the benefits of eating right and using supplements as we changed our eating habits when my husband was diagnosed with cancer and we were able to shrink his tumors. While he is still careful about what he eats I am not quite as strict but I really think I would benefit from following the same plan. I have 3 kids, ages 15, and 13 year old b/g twins. I really want to get this under control so we can go back to doing our normal activities like hiking, sports, and just having fun as a whole family instead of mom sitting on the sidelines. I WILL get there! 😊
