I Need Advise In Talking To My Doc And Getting Someone To Listen
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I fell yesterday while carrying my 8 week old daughter in her car seat after my ankle gave out. It’s not the first time this has happened but the first time while carrying me Baby. I can’t get doctors to take me seriously even though I’ve be diagnosed for years I need advice on how to communicate better with my doctor to get the help I need.

I'm so sorry you fell with your baby how frightening. I'm a retired nurse and I have come to believe that not all doctors are the same. If your doctor is not listening to you or helping you out it's time to change doctors. Fibromyalgia is so frustrating, the pain that comes with it is really something else. It can be a 2 out of 10 and then all of us sudden it's a 10 out of 10. The symptoms can change on a daily basis as well. I also have arthritis so I don't know which one is causing me the problem. I think the best answer I got and this is kidding is he told me I have chronic pain. Seriously well I continue to persist onward and upward per my request I'm going to a pain doctor in a couple of weeks and I'm having an MRI done the end of November. What I want to stress is you have rights and you have the right to know what's going on, doctors don't have the right to make you feel like it's all in your head or it will pass. Good luck and I'll pray for you

Sorry to hear that Lisa. I'm currently reading a book by a doctor who has FM and the book deals with how to speak to your doc about FM, it's a guide to help you and your doctor. I hope this doesn't count as me going against promotion rules here or anything (apologies and please delete message if I am not allowed to do this). The book is the fibro manual by Ginerva Liptan. I've found it really helpful and reading it makes me feel like I'm not going crazy with my symptoms. It can be deflating but it may be time to find another doctor who is willing to help.

@A MyFibroTeam Member - Great advice. These doctors can't even cure a ham. LOL Nothing makes me madder than to hear a doctor just not pay attention to what one is saying. I agree with you - - she should find another doctor. I was having the same problem with my PCP - -you know how deep the pain can be - -he had me on 5 mgs. of oxycodone and thought he was doing me a favor. On the advice of a friend I made an appointment with the Pain Management Center. I had to wait 2 months but it was the best thing I did. She gave me a Pain Patch and Tramadol to take when needed. The Pain Patch works wonders. I do not need the pain pills. I feel so much better. Thank God.

I am sorry you fell especially with your baby. I assume you both are ok? I really don't know how you can get your doctor to listen but you could make a list of problems you deal with everyday, including falling. Take the list and go over it with your doctor. If he/she still don't listen, I. Suggest finding a new doctor that will.
