Driving
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Anyone else have a hard time focusing when driving? 3rd wreck since fibromyalgia. One not my fault, the other I was looking infront of me and didn't see a car on the top of my street, last today I thought I stopped and rolled into a car. I'm contemplating giving up driving but it's one of the few things I thought I could still do. Please help fibro warriors.

I have good days and bad days and if I feel light headed or not quite with it I dont even go out in the car. There have been times when I have been driving and have pulled over as have felt unsafe . I will eventually gave to stop but I think being sensible at the moment I can continue. I don't want fibro to rule my life and will continue to find ways to do the things I want and enjoy. Have just stopped taking medication as I do t think they are helping and am trying to continue in my own way, have been on medication for do many years and dknt want to me to on taking as when pain gets unbearable will have nothing to take , this way hopefully will not be spaced out if my mind the whole time

When I started having driving issues, my GP recommend adderall. It helps with your concentration and can be taken as you need it with an adjustable dose. I can take it about 20-30 mins before I drive (or work on a difficult project, or use power tools, etc.) and it helps give me that little extra focus. Again, I love that I don't need to take it all the time for it to work. It's great to have some support as needed without commitment.

I too am having the same problem. I backed into another car in the parking lot at church a couple weeks ago. I only drive when I have too. My concentration is awful. I don't know how much longer I will be able to continue to drive.

If I know I'm going to be going out driving, I wait to take my gabepentin & cymbalta & until I come home. I no longer drive at night because I can't see at night. The last few times I drove I almost got into an accident. I did get into 1 2 years ago. I had no idea what happened. I just heard a loud bang. I thought someone had thrown something at my car. I was just pulling into my daughter's dance school & the lady in the car next to me pulled in the parking lot next to me & said I hit her. I almost felt like I was in a daze. She had a minor scratch on her car, but she said she just got it & was going to file a report with insurance, but apparantly she never did. Luckily.
