I haven't been diagnosed yet but I'm getting a rare thing called hemoplegic migraines. Had it 3 times now since July 4th weekend. Does anyone else get them? This is different than regular migraines.
My son had one. His migraines started when he was about 4 or 5 years old. We didn't realize how bad it was because he couldn't communicate the level of pain to us (autistic) so he could have been suffering for a long time. He also had a few seizures (petite mal) so we were back and forth to the neurologist. Then I had several people in my autism moms group suggest eliminating gluten from his diet. I didn't think there was any connection at all but I tried it for his sake. Not only did the migraines stop but he didn't have another seizure, and he had night terrors that stopped. He's now 13 yrs old and a few months ago I was exhausted and did feel like being the gluten nazi that I usually am so for about a week and a half I let him and his siblings fix their own food and eat what they wanted. Then one day the school called and said that he looked like he was having a seizure but he also had paralysis on the left side of his body and had called ems to take him to the hospital. The hospital said that with his history and the fact that before things went down hill he had a migraine that it was more than likely a hemiplegic migraine. His neurologist said to go back to being the gluten nazi. :-( I don't know if it would help you but it's worth a try I think. God bless!
