My anxiety has been terrible lately and it contributes to flares. The only thing I take for fibro is 50mg of Tramadol 2 times a day. My doctor wants me to start Zoloft, I've read several articles saying don't mix the 2 because of possible serotonin syndrome. I asked my doctor and pharmacist if it was safe...they both said its low doses of both and the syndrome is very rare?
I've taken tramadol and I currently take five meds daily that could cause serontonin syndrome. I say follow your dr advice and the pharmacist
I was on cymbalta at a dose though that was not tested. 120 mg a day. Tramadol I was up to 4-6 pills aday. One Dr took me off of tramadol and than another put me on it again. But only to take 2-3. That didn't work. I got depressed. She put me on effexor (sp), the lowest dose. So, I was taking cymbalta 120 mg and the effexor (?). 50mg?? I have never had serotonin syndrome. My one Dr said it rarely happens. Long as the dose says low. Sry so long
I also questioned it with my doctor. She said it is a low dose and within the first couple of days to notice the serontine syndrome. If haven't then it's good. But she wouldn't up the doses at all for either one. Or prescribe nothing else.
I took Cymbalta and Tramadol together for 2.5 years. I was worried about serotonin syndrome too and spoke with my pharmacist who basically said the same thing as yours. I currently take Tramadol with Amitriptyline and have had no issues. I second what Kaye said about following your Dr.s advice and the pharmacist. I have terrible anxiety too. I hope you get some relief.
I cut the Tramadol down from 50mg 4 times a day to 50mg 2 times a day (and I'm paying for it 😟) so if I do start the Zoloft I will be safe. Sometimes I think researching things cause anxiety. In 2014 I was on Tramadol 4 times a day along with Cymbalta.....but it didn't bother me because I didn't know anything about them..they also should not be taken together from what I've read. Sometimes ignorance is bliss 😊
