Does Anyone Get Contact Dermitis Due To Chemical Senstivity?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I got a rash on my arms, shoulders, neck, and legs due to long exposure to the sun, chlorine, and sun screen on Sunday. My son and I went to Kings Dominion for his birthday. I have had it since last Monday. It itches and burns(if you scratch it). I have had 1 Predinsone shot in each hip. Now I am taking pill form of Predinsone for 2 days so far....still not completely gone away. This has happen too many times....I really hate summer for this reason.

It seems that people with FM have some kind of sensitivity or another or maybe many sensitivities. I am so sorry to hear that you are suffering from such severe dermatitis that you have to take prednisone for it. I dislike prednisone because of its side-effects, but for really severe itching its the only thing I know of. I do get itching from laundry detergent and dryer sheets that have fragrance in them. If I wear clothes washed and dried with these products and I sweat, I start itching badly in the areas I'm sweating. So I use unscented products now and am careful to apply cologne or essential oil only on areas of my body that won't sweat. My body will even react to sterling if my finger sweats under a ring I'm wearing, so summer is the worst time definitely. The dermatitis will go away on its own after a few days, so I'm fortunate.

My medication says not to stay in sun for prolonged periods..it makes me feel like a sunburn just after 15 minutes.

@A MyFibroTeam Member, I never heard of "Night Gloves." I use cotton gloves that come two pair in a box from the *CVS pharmacy. First, I turn them inside-out to prevent the lining from creasing my skin. When wearing hand cream I apply a pair of these gloves. I used to awaken with sore eyes. Finally figured it out. Even if not wearing hand cream, if hands feel cold at night, I will wear a pair of these gloves. They stretch a lot after a couple of uses. I just wash and dry the gloves with other clothing--very little detergent!.
