CDC Opioid Guidelines
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

Does anyone know if the CDC opioid guidelines was ever federally mandated or passed into law by Congress? If Congress did not mandate or pass them into law then these guidelines are just that and should not be forced on to the rest of us. Well there is an opioid crisis in the US all this guideline has done is to make the situation for those of us with chronic pain worse. Because of these guidelines doctors are afraid to write anything stronger than Motrin for people in pain well this is… read more

This is sich a great subject.
Last November during the gubernatorial election in our state a pollster called me and asked who I was voting for. I told them I was undecided. So they gave my number to one of the candidates running for governor and he called me. One of the questions I asked him was how he felt about medical marijuana and long time opioid use for people in chronic pain. I told him I was asking because I have fibromyalgia. His answer was very disappointing. He basically said that he sympathizes with people in pain but could never condone medical marijuana or long time opioid use. (I do need to say that we have a horrible issue here in Utah with opioid overdose).
I asked him what the answer was for people like me? He said as a politician he was speechless and didn't have an answer. He said that has never happened before ! Lol
As a nurse I see that there are drug seekers that come into the ER every single day. I also see people come into the ER with horrible chronic real pain. I have a feeling this is going to be an ongoing issue of when to medicate and when not to medicate for a long time coming. In the meantime people will suffer.
I have been fortunate and have found natural ways of being pain-free. It's a full-time job but when I work on it it works.
I hope you all are having a good and pain-free night.

Not good medical judgment, in my opinion. Even the packaging with the opioids says not to stop it abruptly! That can cause serious withdrawal symptoms. I am fortunate that my PCP understands the pain of fibromyalgia as well as DDD in neck and spine, knee OA, migraines, daily headaches, IBS, etc. I am prescribed three 10 mg oxycodone maximum per day for 28 days at a time. My average is 2-3 a day. Also on duloxetine, gabapentin, trazodone, bupropion and others. I agree that abusers are ruining the situation for those in serious, real chronic pain! I don't waste my time writing to politicians. Most don't do what constituents vote for anyway and a lot are corrupt. I'm not usually cynical but politicians in recent years have caused distrust. Sorry for the rant!😫 Gentle hugs for all!πŸ€—πŸ’œ

2 weeks ago I was taking 15mg of morphine 4x a day and this new quack just cut me off in favor of Duloxetine. I checked my records today and he noted that it was my decision to stop taking the morphine which I didn't I wanted to change to something else since I was becoming tolerant to the morphine. I was only switched to the morphine after being on hydrocodone for a year. I've been taking opioid painkillers now for almost ten years and then I get cut off cold turkey.

My only concern about these type of things is many will lie about symptoms to get what they want. By no means a personal attack-I have seen this happen and continuing to happen. Just a concern.

I have not heard if it has or has not been federally mandated or passed into law by Congress. But I am hoping every state in the USA will allow medical marijuana.
