Fighting Conversion Disorder Diagnosis
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Anyone ever deal with a doctor trying to diagnose you as conversion disorder? And how to make the doctors see that just because I have trauma in the past, it isn't the cause of my physical problems.

Nerik, did a psychiatrist give you your ptsd diagnosis? A psychiatrist gave me my diagnosis of ptsd and a rheumatologist diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. I wonder about neurologists diagnosing psychiatric disorders. I'm pretty sure my insurers wouldn't accept that. Before I would consider the validity of the diagnosis I would consider the validity of the professional giving the diagnosis. "Consider the source."

Hey, fibro mate, I've been very lucky with doctors. Gotta say, tho, there's lots of people with ptsd who don't get fibro. Wasn't on my or my very excellent doctors radar! But here we are:)

One of the main causes of Fibro is surgery or a drastic change or shock to ones life!! Surely your doctors realize that if you have PTSD, you could definitely have Fibro but there are so many doctors out there that really don't or want to understand Fibro so you will have to stick up for yourself and inform them of this!! I am soooo lucky I have the best and most caring doctor!

Are you sure though.. I have just been diag with complex PTSD and any kind of past stress can impact you in the present.. perhaps don't completely dismiss the idea.

Jennay, I am curious how this might impact insurance coverage? And, another thing strikes me, have you seen a rhuematologist? Or psychiatrist? In the metro van area, I believe a rheumatologist would diagnose fibromyalgia or a psychiatrist would diagnose conversion disorder. I would be uncomfortable with the idea that a neurologist diagnose a psychiatric disorder.
