What Pain Meds Don't Cause Drowsiness
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I pretty much have not been taking any pain meds during the day because they are ineffective (Tylenol), are causing other problems for me (anti-inflammatorys and Tramadol) or make me drowsy during the day (everything else I take that does help with the pain but makes me drowsy). Just to be clear I am not looking for anyone's holistic, non-drug solutions. I am not looking for what diet works best. I am not looking for alternative treatments. It's not that I am against the alternatives, I am… read more

A combination of things usually is what works best for me. Vicoden(low dose,as tramadol makes me very nauseous), heated throw, warm shower or bath, flexeril helps w the muscle spasms, gabapentin for the Neuro issues and nerve pain. I also use Penatrix-available on amazon. Unfortunately, there will be pain every day, ranging from moderate to minor. Pace yourself with physical tasks and give yourself permission to go and rest/recharge on your heated throw(I use Biddeford throws, they get warmer). Try to find something to take your mind off(sewing, crafts, etc.). If you are still working, go to your car at lunch and try to rest.

Lyrica and Cymbalta help me somewhat, and nothing makes me drowsy at this point. The only other things that help are, like the other person said, a combination. I know that's not the answer you are looking for, but honestly, I think that you'll find that most of us that suffer with fibro and/or CFS have found that there is not one thing that helps, and it's different for everybody. There is no one med or magic bullet, unfortunately. If you've not tried the other stuff yet, give it a shot. For me, it's the combo of the Lyrica, Cymbalta, certain supplements, low carb diet, meditation, breathing exercises, heat and gentle massage on painful areas, hot showers, epsom salt baths and lots of rest and pacing. It's a whole lifestyle thing.

I know it's not the easiest answer in the world, but honestly, the lifestyle changes are the things that have gotten me out of bed and more functional.

Naltrexone doesn't make you sleepy, I take it in the morning because it was keeping me awake. Also, opiods don't make me tired. I just can't get them or take them on a regular basis. Lyrica and Savella make me so sleepy I dozed off while typing at work.

I was taking Lyrica for 4 years and I put over a hundred and fifty pounds on me and it wasn't working I had it back operation had she have had two back operations into neck operations I was in a rollover car accident just well trauma has a lot to do with that as far as gabapentin and Lyrica yes they work for nerve endings and they work for some people but if you take anxiety medication that will come you and your nerve endings down and your lips less pain along with the medicine I told you about earlier I would talk to your doctor and ask him about pain medication as well Weatherby Vicodin or hydrocodone but yes there was sweet and nerve blockers but for some people they don't do anything you can get fibromyalgia through a relative like a mom or dad or I could be cause too much drama car accident fall what have you or I can come on through depression or anxiety so I hope I answered your question but yeah I think that's the way to go I would talk to your dog's about this medications I hope I was helpful someone but like I said again I tried both gabapentin and Lyrica and they didn't do anything for me they try to put me on Cymbalta that's that's another medication Cymbalta but it made me very depressed so that's I think another medication you could look into two of those aren't doing anything but get back to me and let me know how you're doing okay

Lyrica and Gabapetin are for nerve pain. These medications have a lot of side effects. Cameow I think a doctors is the best person to give you advice on medications. There are so many variables that come into it. Your type of pain, what it's caused from, what other medical conditions you have. There could be other medications you are taking that could interact with a new medication. What works for one person dose not always work for another. There is also a lot of information on line about medications, side effects and benefits.
