I'm currently on Gabapentin 300mg at bedtime. Rheumatology wants me to work up to 300mg morning and night but it leaves me feeling tired on top of the fatigue I experience everyday. She suggested cymbalta as the next step and Lyrica afterward if cymbalta doesn't help. That being said, I have heard bad things about both such as weight gain, and low libido. Fibromyalgia has already taken so much away from my life. I worked very hard before I was diagnosed with fibro to be healthy and stay in⦠read more
It comes to weighing risk versus benefit. Lyrica tends to "fog the brain" to some extent but response is always individual and I suggest trying it. For me Cymbalta works better but doesnt take care of all the symptoms during the flare up. You will start up with smaller dose and may be finding that the lowest one helps. Every medication has side affects but we need to find a balance as it is not possible to go through some conditions without them...
gabapentin made me lose my marbles; couldn't hold a conversation, got confused super easy, and my memory was worthless.
didn't do so hot on cymbalta, it gave me night sweats, racing heart, anxiety, but no weight gain and i did help with pain!
i am on lyrica now, it has it's pro's and con's, but for now i am sticking to it!
good luck! don't get discouraged if one doesn't work;keep trying!
I started gaba with 1, 3 times a day, and I am still on that dose. I didn't get any tiredness with just the one... so maybe break them up into smaller doses.. I would never do to the cymbalta, lyrica, endep road.. I also use diclofenac, and osteo panadol as a base. Gaba will only help with neuropathic pain though, not muscle aches.
I took Cymbalta too. I was prescribed it to chill me out so I didn't fly off the handle. This was before my fibro diagnosis. I consistently gained weight and got on an anti depressant thinking my eating was from depression. My husband was on it too and came off when he realized he literally could care less about anything. He said it was awful coming off it and dear Lord he was right. It was horrible! I can tell how much it helped with the pain though because I hurt so much now! Was prescribed the others too and read horrible side effects so decided against it.
I'm on Lyrica & I take it three times a day and I haven't had any side effects
