How Do You Get Others To Understand Your Condition And The Symptoms That You Have Off And On With Varying Degrees Of Severity?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I found my ex-spouse thought I used my condition as only excuse not to do the things he wanted me too. He just thought I was lazy. Now I am hesitant to tell others' about my condition because I fear the same responses. I have had dating relationships where I just say I am ill if I am just too tired to do anything and that can be taken a lot easier than explaining Fibromyalgia. I actually do not feel comfortable sharing my health issues as I feel it will only scare dating prospects away. How… read more

Definitely would not share that with a potential boyfriend until things got serious. Honestly if he is not excepting of your condition he is not worthy of your time! Dating is tough. Still looking for the right guy myself. Last guy I dated was very understanding of my condition as he should be! Don't doubt yourself! Your worthy!

I'm not dating. I've been married to my husband for 47 years. When I was first diagnosed I was in my late 30s. I was so sick I think he got scared. I was in bed for eight months. I could hardly walk. He was very understanding and did everything to help me. After I was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2015 he has done the same thing. You might not find a man like him but that's the only man you should have. If they don't love you enough they don't deserve you.

I am very lucky in that my dear boyfriend is wonderful and encourages me to rest and not overdo. I believe this is because he has been witness to my steady decline in health. All of my issues began when I contracted human Parvovirus B19 (no, it is NOT the same Parvovirus that makes dogs sick; rather it is the virus commonly known as Fifth's Disease that makes young children sick with a fever and rash for a day or two.......when you contract the virus as an adult, it is horrible. My rheumatologist believes all of my autoimmune issues are a direct result of the virus. The fibromyalgia had been an on/off issue for many years, but it became an HUGE issue after I was hit by the virus.....now I pretty much feel like crap every day.)

I have been in a few dating situations since my divorce in one the guys daughter had fibro and he didn't think it was a big deal and the other guy I never felt comfortable sharing personal info with. I think it just depends on how comfortable you feel with the guy.
