How Do I Tell People About Fibro?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've suffered in silence for years about pain and tiredness, I'm not the type of person to ask for help or admit I'm weak so now that I finally have answers I have no idea how to start to explain. I'm rubbish at explaining when I'm suffering. How do let people know how bad I really am without sounding like I'm whining?

I am exactly like you and I just don't like to talk about it. It's very hard to explain and even harder for ppl to understand. When ppl look at you they don't see any ailments and even after an explaination they will quickly forget when they see you doing everyday things. Save yourself a lot of grief and start with only the ppl closest too you and those that support you. So much information you can have them to read.

I'd keep talking to my close family members sooner or latter they will understand somewhat. I've gone so far as to copy the "What is Fibromyalgia?" first pages of a book I have about it - can't remember the name of the book. If they don't understand after all that I stop trying to get them to.

Thanks erlinda that's a good idea. I've found some websites that describe fibro better than I can so I'll print off the bits I think will help people understand. When I try to do it I either seem to downplay it or I get interrupted by people going "oh I think I must have that" normally right before they go whizzing off to the gym and then go home to their perfectly clean houses and 3 course meals and I tremble on my way down the stairs

Thanks Oliviabby, I think some of my loved ones have been doing their own research which I have to admit makes it a lot easier on me, told one of my work colleagues though in a moment of weakness when I knew I shouldn't and they've started making their own conclusions. It's hard to work out who to tell and how much to divulge. I don't want to tell everyone at work as I'm very private but at the same time I don't want rumours to spread if I have an off day, or come in yawning my head off

i wouldn't get stressed about having to explain yourself .tell the people who matter exactly whats wrong and if they don't get that they never will.if they want to understand they will probably research it. educating people isn't "whining" don't kick yourself
