Fibromyalgia And Mental Issues
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been suffering with fibro for about 7 years now. It has gotten worse over the years. My husband thinks because I have issues such as depression, anxiety and a lot of stress that that is probably what caused it in the first place and that if I fix those issues it will most likely cure the fibromyalgia. Anybody know if mental issues r what causes fibro?

I know they say that a life changing experience or surgery can bring on Fibro which I find then caused my depression, fatigue and stress!! Did you happen to get hurt, in an accident or lose your job or someone which was devastating for you? It all makes sense for what I went through!

I disagree with your husband. I've been unable to work for 15 years now because of my fibro. I was enjoying a happy stress free life when it hit me hard. Since then I've developed depression and find that my "fibro fog" seems worse by the year. My depression has been treated on and off with meds. Having fibro fog in itself is enough to cause someone stress and anxiety. I think you should both google "fibro fog" for a better understanding of your mental issues. Good luck and know you're not alone.

"Fibromyalgia is not a psychological syndrome" quoted by dr Daniel Clauw. They do work on the same neurotransmitters and about 40%of people with fibro have anxiety and/or depression.
Stress can definitely trigger fibro but it is not the cause. A good support system is helpful and treating depression will help lighten the symptoms of fibro for sure.
I do have depression and anxiety and manage it with meds and talk therapy and meditation/yoga.

@A MyFibroTeam Member is right 100% I'm better now after quitting my job my painful days are only 3 or 4 a month I'm lucky I could quit that high stress job Being married to an ass for 17 years started it and the second hubby was sweet but I watched him die over 5 year period and I was the one who found him dead and called 911 and had to give cpr he was an addict w drugs and alcohol. Then I met someone new moved away from my home state and my grown dtr and took an even highe stress job and remarried I've had so much stress anxiety depression dementia Went to neurologist last week because I thought I was getting Alzheimer's He said if I treat my depression and anxiety I will return to normal Been on new antidepressant vibryd for 3 weeks I am much much better now. But I've also treated all my other health conditions arthritis I started a new one called Vimovo which is a coated aleve tablet. I had one knee and two shoulders cleaned up. I am now being treated for sleep apnea and restless legs, now I'm beginning to wonder if I even have fibro, it has taken me a few years to learn about everything that was going wrong but I have been treated for everything and it has made a huge difference I have a team of awesome docs family rheumo neuron and gyn I had several gun problems too so I had total hysterectomy. So it pays to Addtess all of the health conditions you have I go to gym everyday for a light weighted workout or yoga Water classes help too Do whatever you can afford to do so far a getting treatment I realize most folks insurance is not like mine Feel free to message me good luck dear

He has a mental issue. Being in pain everyday and getting worse is what is causing the depression and anxiety. You have a compromised immune system and catch things easily and are prone to more autoamunion deficiency diseases.
