Carpal Tunnel Symptoms
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello everyone So lately I have been having severe pain and weakness in both of my wrists. I have been checked for true arthritis and no evidence can be found. I believe it's related to my nerve pain however I'm not sure how to treat it apart from what I'm already doing for my fibro. My problem is is that it's getting worse. Especially my right wrist. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as treatment.

I've had carpal tunnel since my very first job 31 years ago. Although I figured I had it I only just had it diagnosed in July. I had been told by other people that even with surgery, if you continue to do the same things, it can come back. So I never pursued it. The doctor will want you to try the braces first. Put them on at bedtime, also. If it doesn't help he said surgery which I will probably look into next year. Best wishes

Many times, carpal tunnel-like symptoms are cause by pinched nerves in the neck. I had physical therapy, including traction, to free the nerves that were being compressed. If it is actually carpel tunnel, you could try sleeping with wrist braces on. That has helped my husband for years.

Get a brace for your wrist. Push doctor to do a MRI on it.

praying that the pain goes away for you

I have been checked for Degenerative disc disease. They originally believed that was what was causing my pain before I was finally diagnosed with fibro. They was no evidence other than slight excess fluid on my spinal cord in my lumbar, which they ruled as nothing to worry about, with no (known) side effects. I have not had my wrists looked at for arthritis and I'm planning on doing so. However I AM suspicious of a pinched nerves but I have never been able to confirm it.

@A MyFibroTeam Member Have you ever been diagnosed with degenerative disk disease? You could ask your doctor to order a scan of your cervical spine. Another test that is helpful to confirm or rule out carpal tunnel is a nerve conductivity test. I've had both tests and have confirmed that my symptoms were from bulging disks impinging the nerves in the cervical spine area. Thank goodness I haven't had to have surgery!
