Sometimes the tissue around my muscles ache and when I rub them it feels like they are snapping and cracking. It's not the joint itself but the tissue and ligaments around the muscle that is cracking. I can spend hours rubbing my arms and cracking all the tissue around my lower arms, elbow area and upper arms. It's the same with my legs. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I used to crack my knuckle joints when I was younger, but the tissue????
What you are describing sounds like myofascial issues. The tissue, fascia, that surrounds muscles is supposed to act like a lubricant to help tissues slide past each other when you move, kind of like a liquid. With the disorder, it acts more like a solid, gets stuck, doesn't allow tissues to glide. There is a myofascial massage technique that helps warm up the fascia, unstick it, help it work like it should. Myofascial issues contributes to the all over stiffness we feel. Heat/hot tub also helps.
Thanks guys at least I know I'm not all cracked up! Drives my husband crazy though, I snap and crack all night long!
One of the best ways I've heard it explained.

I get like knots in sore areas and it does feel creaky when I rub there...?
