Does Anyone Have Or Know Someone With Arthritis Who Takes Medication (tablets) And Is Anyone On The Injections?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

The reason I am asking is because I only have an options of 4 tablets which take a minimum of 6 months to fully kick in and I'm now on my third tablet because the tablets keep causing problems with my liver, including the one I'm on right now which I may have to stop and start on the 4th/last option and I'm scared I won't meet the criteria for the Injections if this last tablet doesn't work.

I took methotrexate, it didn't help my pain, now I am on Plaquinil 200 twice a day. I have a concern regarding injections because they make you even more susceptible to infections and you may even develop lymphoma. that cancer runs in my family.

dont let them put on you methotraxate .. they tried me on that stuff.. it messed me up big time because in high doses its an anti cancer drug.. and with our systems.. we are sensitive to EVERYTHING.. I found if hubby or i went around anyone who was sick.. i would be sick for weeks.. i would have to stop taking the meds to get better and then restart the meds with bad side affects.. after that I found i was allergic most sulfa based anti-flammitories which doesnt make my PA or fibro get better.. with your FA tho.. may I suggest Evening Primrose Oil in capsule form.. it really helped keep my patches in check until I found a good dermy..she put me on Soriatane 35mgs so far.. its really helping with the patches...also found a bath soak that is really helpful with the aches is Muscle Soak with Clary Sage from Radox ... i can be at my wits end and pour some in a hot bath and just soak and by the time i come out i feel almost human again..lol hope these help.. feel free to message me

Everything we eat and drink goes via our Liver there,s no way to by pass that. Some powerful analgesia will affect your liver but you g.p should keep a liver profile blood test going to ensure you are not at risk, as for injections-they work faster but are a short term remedy as they thin your bones. So I would be inclined to inject to calm down pain and then revert to pills or gels once you feel better. I did it tis way BUT I now have osteoporosis! Not sure if the steroid injections caused it but I,m sure they assisted the onset.

@A MyFibroTeam Member Oh no, I don't take all four tablets at once, I'm only on one, sorry if I gave the wrong idea. I've had to stop each tablet in order to try another tablet. I have Psoriatic arthritis, in my feet, hands, knee's and back. Yes sadly there is a criteria here in New Zealand, I'm hoping because I'm only 23 they will allow it. They have a few different type of injections which is also good, but I have to get a blood test every 2 weeks now instead of every month to check my liver levels. If they don't change I will have to stop this tablet and try my last option or just don't bother with tablet's and go straight to injections.

I've been taking Gabapentin for the last 6-7 years. It does take the edge off the pain.
I'm also on Cymbalta and that helps with the over emotional thing.
Good luck!
