Charlie Horses In Calves
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

So I've had a Charlie horse in my calf for about 3 months. The past two weeks has gotten really bad and the past 3 days are so horrible I can barely walk and wake up screaming in pain. My pain management doctor says it's not a muscle or nerve problem it's a vitamin deficiency and I need labs done ASAP. This was at the end of today so of course I won't be getting then till tomorrow. Anyone experience this? I read that it could be potassium deficiency out magnesium deficiency. I'm kinda freaked… read more

You absolutely need magnesium taken together with vit b6. And also calcium, taken separate from magnesium. These are so important for fibromyalgia! Read up on b vitamins and importance of not overdoing with only one. Also, magnesium and calcium should be balanced. Hope this helps you. Take care. Hug

magnesium 500 to 1000 mg divided doses and that should help along with tonic water that has quinine and also there is a product by magnalife that is for restless leg and cramping that works very well it is homeopathic and runs around 20 dollars for a 120 to 200 pills, if you need more info let me know and massage also works wonders on a chalrlie horse and try takingn a epsom salt bath to relax the muscles also

Start eating bananas. It wouldn't hurt to try it. I've always found when I begin getting leg cramps the next day I eat 3 bananas throughout the day. For a few days. Then cut down to a banana a day. It helps for me I hope it helps for u.

Yes, don't apologize for coming to this group to vent, we will never say you're whiny. We are all here for each other and understand your frustration. I myself don't always believe Charlie horses are a vitamin deficiency. I take mag, potassium, calcium, 50k of d and a fibro specific multi that has more of all those plus lots more including b vitamins and malic. I still have Charlie horses, but mine seem to only happen when I've been on my feet too l9ng pushing myself. I think it's my bodies way of saying enough. I also use a old home remedy. Some say it doesn't work but for my it usually does. I have bars of ivory soap under my fitted sheet near the foot of my bed so it is near my calf area. If I cramp I place my leg on top of that soap and it eases. It seems strange but if it helps me I'm doing it. On the rare occasion it doesn't work I rub this stuff called Amish Origins deep penetrating pain relief into my legs. Vick vapor rub will work too because it's the menthol and camphor that stop the cramps.

I had to start taking potassium during my cancer treatments, I hope you don't have to be prescribed it. Those pills are massive and hard to swallow. If you break them in half they sti.l hurt because the coating gets jagged. The nurses in chemo told me to disolve in a tiny amount of water and mix it with apple sauce. That advice was good because otherwise I never would have gotten them down the last 3+ months. I have been taking a supplement I found on amazon called Fibro-Response it has all the vitamins and minerals that FMS sufferers are usually low on or need more of or helps with pain and fatigue. But since chemo depletes potassium I had to take prescription strength and get it in IV once a week.
