I Am Wondering How Did Your Fibro Start?? Did It Come On Gradually? What Kinds Of Symptoms Do You Have?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I haven't been officially diagnosed yet which is why I have questions. My pain started shortly after having back surgery. It seemed to come on gradually and has just continued to get worse. Most doctors I have been to seem to think its all in my head which is very frustrating. They all agree though that not all of my pain can be connected to my back injury.

Can't say for sure when mine started but pretty sure I had it as a child. I was always the first in the family to get sick and the last to get better. I couldn't tollerate heat or cold and I had no energy. My Dad said he wore out the floor walking me when I was a baby since I cried so much. My Mother just said I ruined her system of getting things done because I didn't sleep. Of course I survived childhood. After my oldest son was born I was put on birht control pills to stop ovulation because it had become extremely painful. That's when the pain became intollerable. I was put in the hospital and had many tests done. The neurologist finally concluded that I either had Lupus or MS but niether of them came up positive on the tests. I was diagnosed 4 years later by an internest who just happened to have worked with a rheumatolgist.

I have also seen doctors who think it's just in my head but that doesn't mean that they are right. They don't live in our bodies. There is much research now that confirms that fibro is real. It is a challengind disorder because not everyone presents with the same symptoms or responds to the same treatments. Thank God for the doctors who believe and are trying to find out more.

Well for me i first started out having IBS. Then with that came my anxiety which made me feellike crap and scared to leave the house cause i never knew when my IBS would kick in. Plus i have headaches alot and depression and my body would hurt. I heard about fibromyalgia and started researching it then went to my dr and asked if i might have it and we went through all the problems i have and she said yeah you do have it. Not sure if all this helps at all

I have a relatively similar story. I had random aches and pains as a child, very sensitive, and always complaining of pain. I was, and still am, sensitive to certain foods--nausea being my main issue. My shift began after hitting my head on a rock at the age of three, resulting in a black eye, stitches across my forehead, and a hairline fracture in my occipital lobe. Since I was too young to really recognize all this, I am relying on my family's account, who all say that I went from an extremely easygoing and happy child to a fussy one, with a pain in my ankle one day and my arm the next. I have had stomach issues since then as well and was diagnosed with IBS at about 14. It was not until I was 15 that anyone acknowledged my pains as anything but growing pains. I had hip surgery at 16 to repair a tear in my hip socket. I was finally diagnosed with fibro at 18/19. At the time, I was also diagnosed with hypermobility which is a common overlapping condition.

I have been diagnosed for years but generally felt fatigue , anxiety and IBS. I had a discectomy which took care of the horrible sciatica. A few months later I began to hurt all over. That's when I think fibromyalgia became full blown. I had what I call the perfect storm with my dad dying, finishing my master's, leaving my job, some family issues and then a back surgery. Definitely over stimulated....

Mine came from an accident and then I had managed it for years until I had another accident and had to have surgery. I noticed it coming on strong right before surgery. I'm told it rears its evil head when we are stressed!!
