How To Make Freinds
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Sounds stupid but I really don't know how to make friends. The only time I actually speak to a human being is at the checkouts in Tesco. I've never had a best friend, growing up I had friends at school then I suppose drinking buddies but I never had anyone to share things or get advice about growing up. I've accepted I'm ill and that I'll never be in another relationship so I need to get out of my flat and meet people. Trouble is I can't drive very far so the things I enjoy are out of reach… read more

Hi Yanto,
My name is Barb /bcrn on the site. I just wanted to reach out to you and let you know that you're not alone! I know, especially since my diagnosis of Fibromyalgia, not to mention the many other physical and emotional issues I deal with, I don't really have friends anymore. This disease does seem to make us feel as though we've been robbed of our lives as we once knew it. I personally have never really had many friends. I have always just had maybe a handful, if that, all the time I was growing up and even as an adult. I've lost my career, my apartment, all my belongings I ever had my whole life the year I had to stop working and apply for disability. I no longer have friends, with the exception of the people I've met here. I don't go anywhere except for the grocery store and appointments I or my mom have. I think I really need to get back to going to church, as I think it would help me find at least "some " true friends who won't judge me for my situation. This is the best advice I can give, aside from this website of course. Although we all may not know each other personally, and all live around the country and the world in some cases, we at least know we all have one thing in common and that's empathy for each other, a safe place to fall when you're having a hard day, and even a place to state when you have a good day overall! I'm more than willing to listen to anything you want or need to talk about anytime. I will always get back to you, but as we all know, some days it's a challenge to just get out of bed, therefore I sometimes might take a day or two to reply. I am very familiar with the feeling of being lonely and don't ever feel ashamed to express how you're feeling, regardless if it's up or down! Welcome to a place where you can just be yourself and no one is going to judge you! #GodBless Regards & gentle hugs, Barb / BCRN :)

Megschneider. This week in York ha been the Viking festival. I normally go every year but I couldn't this year. It's really good, people from Scandinavia come dressed as old Norse people and sell stuff they've made. They camp out in the streets. There are Viking/Saxon mock battles and even a royal wedding in the Minster. Later in the year they have a Roman festival, along the same lines but it's not been going very long so it can only get better. Ian

Please never feel alone, we are all in the same boat with this disease so we understand how hard it can be. Some charities are looking for people to visit and chat to the elderly this can be very rewarding and not to hard on you or are you able to get a pet, I have a dog and through her walks I have met other dog walkers and look forward to chatting with them daily I also find that a dog gives me a reason to get up everyday and get through another day. Hope this helps .

I am the same way and am actually going through the same thing. I get so jealous when I see people that have 50 million friends and I don't even have 1 close friend. I moved about 6 months ago and thought I would start over here and try to make some friends. What I have learned is that when I first tried here I didn't start in places that would understand my disease and would understand that I would have some bad days. I have finally realized that. I am now going to church when I can so we will see where that goes. Make sure and find positive and understanding places because it will be a big stressor if you go and find friends that are not understanding and don't know any better. For example I started at my kids PTA. BIG MISTAKE!! Way too demanding and those PTA moms don't mess around. LOL good luck to you. Keep me posted and I will keep you posted as well. Hopefully we will find a friend or two.
