I had a partial hysterectomy (have 1 overy) a few years ago (was 36 or 37) for a few reasons. Since then I have had occasional hot flashes at night.
Had my levels checked and I am not quite menopausal YET...
For the last month + I am having them EVERY NIGHT, I wake up soaking wet and freezing and then end up wide awake for hours as the pain kicks in.
Could this be a fibro thing or is it just normal aging?
Either way... any advice on how to deal with them so I can get a decent night sleep?
It's probably both. I went into surgical menopause years ago, and am now post-menopausal. My hot flashes were worse during menopause years (some say HRT works), but I still get them. I think mine are from my meds, or when I have to go off my meds.
Night sweats, day sweats, I have them both. The night sweats are much worse. I took evening primrose oil for a while. It doesn't have as many side effects as black cohosh. It worked ok for a while. I just got tired of taking so much stuff
I've been dealing with surgical menopause during the past month after an emergency surgery. Since we couldn't be sure of my symptoms and I have a higher risk for breast cancer, my doctor put me on Brisdelle 7.5 mg. This is a non-hormonal med; it's a low dose antidepressant. I've been on it for a couple of weeks now and it has helped with my hot flashes. You might ask your doctor about it.
Black Cohash worked extremely well, but be careful.... first problem with it is liver damage. I have had high liver counts in blood tests for the past year, stopped the black cohash and now they are back to normal.. Keep in mind that I had taken it for 5 years, 2 capsules/day!
I had hot flashes too, but I found my anxiety from the pain if Fibro brought them on too. When I take something for anxiety they go away.
