Does any have any suggestions on how to help family members understand what you are living with. I have fibro, celiac 's , an autoimmune thyroiditis and my husband just does not get it, down to simple concepts like I cannot eat wheat, rye or barley Suggestions?

I understand what you're going through! I have all three as well. Some members of my family understand but there are some that don't really believe me. In my experience I have had to learn not to try to "make" people understand. There is no way you can. They have to be open to new information and that they things were before are different now. This is very hard. But I have learned to just pray and to take care of myself as I need to. The hardest part is when you can't do everything you need to do and would really like help say with kids, or house chores, or errands. Sometimes we have to look outside of family to get the help we need. Still, with that being said, YouTube is a great resource for videos on many topics, Maybe sit down with the family member(s) you would like to at least try and understand and watch the videos with them. Then ask if they have any questions. This is a time when both sides need to be open and trusting each other. Best of luck! It may be tough, but you can do it!

I have Coeliac disease, Hashimoto's and fibro too. My family seem to 'get' my confirmed autoimmune disease issues but don't understand the fibro side of things. They totally support me not eating gluten etc etc coz a blood test and biopsy confirmed coeliac, and thyroid removal confirmed Hashimoto's. They just don't understand when I say I'm having a bad (fibro) day when I look perfectly normal and alright.

I try and get any one who wants to understand to read the spoon theory. You can google it or go to "but you don't look sick.com. It explains very well haw we are sometimes limited in what we can do. My adult kids will now ask if I have enough spoons to do -incert activity here. It has really helped my family and I todeal with my limitations.

My Husband didn't get it either so we are no longer together. I'm pretty sure he was angry at me for not being my old self! My family has done a lot of reading on fibro and they understand. It helped them to read a blog on fibro where victims can add comments. After a while they starting seeing patterns where people had a lot of the same issues. Dont know if this May be helpful or not. Good luck!
