Can you suffer from PTSD even if you weren't the one that the traumatic event happened to? But someone close like a son? And if so can fibromyalgia be caused by PTSD?

PTSD can be a cause. It's a stress disorder. Stress can be a major trigger for some of us. I have PTSD from an abusive boss, and actually lost my sense of smell from emotional trauma. Sounds hokey- but a neurologist said its not as uncommon as one would think. He said some people will have a heart attack, throw up, collapse, or many other ways the body deals with trauma. In some people it will manifest itself neurologically like I did with my smell.
Trauma is not only physical...

I've been told that fibro can be brought on by something Physically traumatic. I injured my back and I've had fibro ever since.

Short answer to both is yes. I have been told by my doctor and the pain clinic that my childhood is the most likley cause for me developing fibro, but saying that everyone is different and as the lady above said it doesn't have to be something that has happened directly to you.
Sending positive thoughts xx

I have heard that a lot of different things can cause a Fibro Flare up and even be somewhat of a trigger for your Fibro. If I get really stressed out about something then I do get flare ups. I use what I call meditation to help. Meditation comes in all forms. You don't have to sit cross legged and chant...lol. I like to paper craft. Design a new card or scrap book layout. It helps me relax and I am able to concentrate on something other than whatever the stress is about. PTSD can also be triggered by many different things. My brother's son died at 15 years old, my brother went through years of PTSD from that experience. He had to have a lot of grief counseling, marriage counseling and other things too. He is doing better but I don't think any one ever gets over losing a child.
