Fibro Support Groups
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone attended a fibromyalgia support group in their area? If so, how was the experience? I would appreciate the input as I am thinking about going to one.

Yes I did but found out I knew more than they did, not my cup of tea, but try it you may learn something new and can share😊

Went to a meeting in my area and they had a guest speaker, (too much like a snake oil salesman), the group wasn't very friendly either. So much for getting any support.

I tried one when I was 1st dx. It was hard for me cuz it was face to face plus being from a small town I knew a couple of the ppl. Didn't really like that. My aunt went with me for support plus she suffered chronic pain et couple of them were like why are you here? And one of the ladies we did know said it would be fine for her to go with me for support:( As I started going faithfully et getting to know these people (don't get me wrong they were friendly, older than me tho most retired) but they started to get almost rude with the "You don't look sick, you seem to be sitting just fine there," etc) I then just quit going. Know longer felt comfortable!! I did a lot of reading et learning on my own:)

I went to one in my area a few times. I was kind of disappointed because the facilitator worked at a health food store and they just kept bringing guest speakers in to try and sell us in alternative methods. Things like energy healing and companies that sell supplements. It wasn't for me. I wanted to actually meet and talk to people, maybe make friends who we be understanding about my situation since the friends I had before diagnosis aren't very compassionate or understanding it turns out. I would try going if I were you. My Dr. even recommended it. I'm sure most groups aren't like the one I attended, the woman who ran mine was just really into the natural approach of treating Fibro.
