How Do You Know When New Symptoms Are Fibro Or Something More Serious? When Should You Contact Your Doctor?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

My pain and symptoms seem to change frequently. For example, at times I get a pinching/aching pain in the lower right quadrant of my abdomen. Because I had this type of pain before, I didn't go to the doctor right away. After 3 days with pain not subsiding, I went to the doctor. My appendix had burst and I was taken in for emergency surgery to remove my appendix. That was a year ago. For the last few days I have had a pinching pain in the same area. I made an appointment with the gastro… read more

...I can relate to surprise illness along with fibro. With IBS, reflux, bloating, muscle spasms, pain and other fibro related issues, how was I supposed to know I was having appendicitis (14 yrs ago) or a bowel obstruction (3 months ago). Fortunately these issues were treated before they became life threatening. I think some of us put off seeing the doctor or going to ER thinking it's just a fibro flare. as NikkiPickup said, dont ignore new issues.

Hi Kim! ... I know what you mean. Had appendicitis 10 yrs ago with emergeency surgery also. Thought it was just Fibro and my IBS issues. Joint problems, bowel, bladder issues, muscle pain, etc, etc, its hard to decide when to see a doctor. My family doctor has me come in every 3 mos and if I am concerned, I discuss my issues with them and hope they will know if it is serious or not.Good luck and be well!!

Thanks everyone for the support. The gastro ordered a CTscan. I got the results - very small hernia. May or may not be causing the pain. Everything else checked out fine so I am relieved that it was nothing serious. If pain does not subside possible causes are hernia, scar tissue from previous surgeries, or endometriosis.
